Karpenkov: situation inside Belarus is under control, but external contours arouse concern

The internal situation in Belarus is under full control of the state, but the external contours arouse concern, since NATO troops are deployed close to the border – as noted by Nikolai Karpenkov, Belarus’ Deputy Interior Minister and Commander of the Internal Troops

In his talk with the ONT TV channel, Mr. Karpenkov noted, “We see how the military special operation is developing, and what statements the neo-Nazis – who have escaped and now stay there – are making. [We see] their plans dealing with a forceful overthrow of the current government, and we see NATO troops that are deployed on the border. Of course, this worries us.”

“Internal troops are the main striking force of the Interior Ministry,” Mr. Karpenkov added. “Of course, we are built into the national security system. I want to say that – in order for us not to have another year of 2020 – we are looking at what is happening in the neighbouring territories. We will respond to those – who are trying to tell us that we will be attacked and that a Peramoga plan has been prepared – in the most democratic way that we observe, which our neighbours have. They should be ready for that.”
