Karelia Head proposed new joint projects to Belarus

Head of the Republic of Karelia (Russia) Artur Parfenchikov has met with Belarus’ Ambassador to Russia Aleksandr Rogozhnik to invite Belarusians to participate in a number of unique projects that are planned to be implemented in the Russian region

One of them concerns food products made from White Sea algae.

“Karelia is a unique territory in terms of its large reserves of very useful algae in the White Sea. We have now started a programme for the production of baby food with the addition of natural algae, a unique iodised product. We are currently using about a thousand tonnes, and we can increase these reserves at least 30 times. The factory that we are currently building for our baby food market processes 500 tonnes. We are ready to offer the Belarusian side joint ventures to process these products, or we are ready to send the ingredients to Belarus,” Mr. Parfenchikov said.

Another promising project deals with the production of Karelian birch wood.

“We are now creating Karelian birch plantations. We have learnt how to clone these plants and are ready to offer Belarus co-operation in this area,” the Karelia Head emphasised.

The meeting also discussed joint projects in the field of supplies of Belarusian machinery to Karelia, joint mining of minerals, production of construction materials, and supplies of elevator equipment.
