Karankevich: experience of BelNPP construction and operation enjoys demand abroad

The experience of the construction and operation of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is in demand abroad and is being successfully implemented in projects of Russia’s Rosatom – as noted by Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich

Mr. Karankevich stressed that the Belarusian nuclear power plant had been built together with the country’s strategic partner, Rosatom State Atomiс Energy Corporation. The Generation III+ VVER-1200 reactors – which are modern power units that meet the highest safety requirements – are used at the Belarusian NPP.

“Belarus became the first foreign platform for Rosatom, where this project was implemented,” the Deputy Prime Minister explained. “At the time of construction, more than 9,000 builders, engineers and those who, in principle, were supposed to operate the nuclear power plant in the future worked at the object, bringing together dozens of organisations, engineering schools, and the scientific community of Belarus and Russia. This is the largest and most high-tech project in the history of Belarusian-Russian relations. Of course, Belarus and the specialists who were involved in the construction of this facility have gained a unique experience, which is now in demand and is being successfully implemented as part of the Rosatom projects in other countries. We have established interaction with partners within the Eurasian Economic Union and the CIS.”

According to Mr. Karankevich, many countries are interested in learning from Belarus’ experience, and among them is Hungary, where an expert-level working group has been established.
