Just kids at school

In October, the Just Kids in School photo exhibition has toured Belarusian schools – telling its guests of daily school routine of boys and girls with disabilities

The photo project – aimed to show that all children can study together regardless of the presence or absence of disability – was organised as part of the Just Kids at School information campaign. The latter is tasked to change attitude towards the right of children with disabilities to quality education and social inclusion. It is being implemented by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and Belarus’ Education Ministry, with financial support of the Russian Government.

As the project organisers say, each school had an opportunity to arrange the photo exhibition in a free format: on information stands, easels, or in classrooms. The proposed exposition could be expanded, and many schools supplemented it with stories of their disabled pupils. As a result, children have got acquainted not only with stories of others but also learnt more of their classmates’ lives, successes and hobbies.

During the exhibition, boys and girls were lectured on such concepts as inclusion, disability, ethics of communication with disabled people, while also learning of how to create a friendly atmosphere at school.
