Italian Foreign Ministry wants Ukraine to sit down at negotiating table
Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani said the country considers it necessary to ensure that Ukraine can sit down at the peace talks table, RIA Novosti reports
Mr. Tajani noted that soon he plans to discuss the issue of the Ukrainian conflict with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. He stressed that the goal of the Italian Government is to allow peace talks between Ukraine and Russia to take place.
Earlier, Mr. Stoltenberg stated that it is very important for NATO not to become a party to the conflict, so he believes that the alliance should not deploy its forces on Ukrainian territory. However, he added that NATO will continue to provide assistance in the form of arms supplies. In turn, the press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, emphasised that pumping Ukraine with weapons from Western countries does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect.
