Kosachev appointed co-ordinator of IPA CIS observer group for Presidential election in Belarus

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia’s Federal Assembly Konstantin Kosachev has been appointed co-ordinator of the Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) CIS group of international observers during the Presidential election in Belarus, sb.by reports citing the IPA CIS press service

“By order of Valentina Matvienko, the Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Chairperson of the Federation Council of Russia’s Federal Assembly, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev has been appointed co-ordinator of the IPA CIS group of international observers at the Presidential election in Belarus. At the moment, a group of observers is being formed from representatives of the IPA CIS parliaments, IPA CIS officials and experts of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development of the IPA CIS Member States,” the statement reads.

The IPA CIS press service recalled that at a meeting of the CIS IPA Council, held in November at the organisation’s headquarters, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Kochanova invited a group of IPA CIS international observers to take part in monitoring the election.

“Taking into consideration the vast experience of the IPA CIS in monitoring the preparation and conduct of elections and the unshakeable authority of the organisation, the objectivity of its conclusions, I am honoured, on behalf of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, to invite the IPA to participate in international monitoring of the Presidential election in Belarus,” Ms. Kochanova said at the time.
