International interaction in focus

Belarus’ Foreign Minister, Vladimir Makei, negotiated with foreign ministers of Iran, Nicaragua, Turkey, Serbia and Finland in New York – as detailed by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service

 Iran

 During the meeting of Vladimir Makei with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the sides confirmed the need to intensify the Belarusian-Iranian trade and economic co-operation in the near future, also taking into account the two states’ efforts to counter the policy of economic pressure and unilateral coercive measures.

The foreign ministers recognised common approaches to some topical international topics – primarily, with regard to the problems of illegal sanctions as a method of political pressure and interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.

As reported, Hossein Amir Abdollahian invited the Belarusian Foreign Minister to pay a working visit to Tehran in the near future.

 

Nicaragua

While talking to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nicaragua, Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres, a high level of mutual support in the international arena was acknowledged.

Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres stressed the importance of Belarus' participation in the activities of the Group of Friends in Defence of the UN Charter and the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women. In turn, Vladimir Makei expressed gratitude for the assistance in promoting Belarus' initiatives within the UN, including on combating human trafficking.

As informed, the sides paid special attention to the development of economic ties between the states, intensification of the work of the Belarus-Nicaragua Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Co-operation and strengthening of contacts between the foreign ministries.


Turkey

During the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Mevlut Cavusoglu, the sides noted the positive dynamics of bilateral co-operation, while discussing preparations for a new meeting of the Belarusian-Turkish Joint Intergovernmental Economic Commission. They also exchanged views on topical issues on the international agenda, including countering illegal migration.

As reported, Vladimir Makei thanked the Turkish Minister for his principled position and Turkey’s friendly assistance against the background of anti-Belarusian rhetoric and actions on the part of some states.

Mevlut Cavusoglu confirmed Turkey's high interest in developing comprehensive relations with Belarus and implementing major economic projects in our country. He expressed gratitude to the Belarusian side for providing significant assistance in eliminating forest fires on the southern coast of Turkey.

 

Serbia

Vladimir Makei and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, discussed the state and prospects of bilateral co-operation in the political, trade and economic spheres, as well as interaction on multilateral platforms.

The ministers exchanged views on topical issues on the international agenda, including the situation in the Western Balkans Region.

 

Finland

According to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service, a range of issues of mutual interest were also discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland, Pekka Haavisto.
