Interior Ministry representative revealed foreigners from which countries most often apply for Belarusian citizenship
Pavel Khrishchenovich, the Deputy Head of the Interior Ministry’s Citizenship and Migration Department, told the STV TV channel people from which countries most often apply for Belarusian citizenship
Answering the relevant question, Pavel Khrishchenovich noted, “Today, about 4 to 4.5 thousand foreign citizens acquire Belarusian citizenship annually (actually, the figure has hardly changed over the past decade). The top three are, of course, Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan. There are also other countries, including far abroad.”
According to him, people from EU member states also apply for Belarusian citizenship.
“Recently, a lot of citizens of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia have applied for Belarusian citizenship. And this is taking into account the fact that they are obliged to renounce their citizenship, since we do not have dual citizenship,” Pavel Khrishchenovich added.
