Belarus is against the revision and weakening of the current international drug control system, enshrined in three UN conventions – as stated by Oleg Silvestrovich, the Head of the Main Directorate for Drug Control and Combating Human Trafficking of Belarus’ Interior Ministry, at the high-level segment of the sixty-eighth session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs, sb.by reports with reference to the Interior Ministry

It is reported that the event in Vienna brought together the heads of relevant ministries and departments from different countries. The head of the Belarusian delegation stressed that the republic is categorically against the revision and weakening of the current international drug control system, enshrined in three UN conventions.

Mr. Silvestrovich noted that there is a steady downward trend in the number of registered crimes in this area in Belarus. There are fewer cases of substance poisoning, including fatal ones, and the number of people under the supervision of psychiatric narcologists is decreasing.

"At the same time, an unprecedented volume of psychotropic substances transit from the territory of the European Union was recorded last year. About 2 tonnes of prohibited substances were seized from illicit traffic, twice as much as in 2023. Most of them comprised the batches being shipped from Poland and the Baltic States in the direction of Russia. The largest 4-SMS supply channels in the history of Belarus were identified and suppressed," the official informed. According to him, information with regard to each case was sent to the competent authorities of the neighbouring states through Interpol.

"We are open to exchanging information on all categories of criminals and working together in the interests of the countries of the region," Mr. Silvestrovich emphasised.
