Information Minister: let the world media write the truth about Belarus, nothing more is needed

481 representatives of 25 Belarusian media outlets and 331 journalists from 70 foreign media outlets have gained access to the Central Election Commission’s Information Centre during the early voting in the Presidential election in Belarus – as stated by Information Minister Marat Markov at a press conference before the centre began its work today at the Palace of the Republic

Mr. Markov recalled that data on the voting process will be broadcast from the centre on January 26th: at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm, and 9pm. Bridges with the regions (following a separate plan) and the Public Election Observation Centre will be organised. Igor Karpenko, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, will hold a press conference on the preliminary results of the Presidential election on January 27th, at approximately 2:30-3:00am. The CEC final press conference – On Preliminary Results of the Presidential Election of the Republic of Belarus will begin on January 27th at 11:00am, and it will be followed by briefings of the international observer missions.

The Information Minister addressed journalists, “I think you will have more than enough information. All that remains is to ask you to work well, at a high level, not to miss the nuances and moments that are really important to be shown. We are definitely open. Our task now is to show what is happening in Belarus in reality – and it is not just what you report to our audience: it is very important what you will post on social networks, on YouTube channels, and in messengers. One way or another, the main thing for us is that people who are interested in the true situation in Belarus, and not what some foreign politicians or experts say there, see what is really happening in the country.”

Experts, observers, and journalists will work in the CEC Information Centre: 481 representatives from 25 Belarusian media outlets and 331 journalists from 70 foreign media outlets. Foreigners will be represented by major media outlets from 23 countries in Asia, Europe, Latin and North America, and the Middle East. Representatives of the Russian media have shown great interest – as is traditional. In addition, the world's leading media outlets have applied to cover the election: these are the BBC, Reuters (UK), Al Jazeera (Qatar), the Media Corporation of China (CCTV and CGTN), TASS, VGTRK (Russia), CNN, the Associated Press (the United States), AFP (France), and major regional media — TeleSUR (Venezuela), ZDF and ARD (Germany), EFE (Spain), and France Télévisions.

“One and a half times more journalists from foreign media have been accredited this time than in 2020. These are the leading mass media. I will be happy to answer their questions if any. The most important message for them is to write the truth, we need nothing more from them,” Mr. Markov noted.

On January 25th, the CEC Information Centre will host a press conference by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission on preparations for the Presidential election of the Republic of Belarus in 2025. On January 26th, data on the voting process will be broadcast from the centre: at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm, and 9pm. Bridges with the regions (following a separate plan) and the Public Election Observation Centre will be organised as well.
