India’s Ambassador: we encourage Belarusian companies to increase their presence in Indian market
India is keen to expand trade and economic co-operation with Belarus — as stated by Ashok Kumar, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus, following his today’s meeting with President Aleksandr Lukashenko
The diplomat stated that he had a highly productive meeting with the Belarusian leader, “We covered nearly all aspects of bilateral co-operation. Our main focus was on trade and economic partnership between our countries. We acknowledge that there is considerable untapped potential in this area, which we intend to explore at the upcoming meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic co-operation.”
The Ambassador highlighted that the conversation mainly focused on supplying Belarusian BelAZ trucks to India, along with co-operation in agriculture, pharmaceuticals and medical production.
“Co-operation in wood processing is particularly important to us,” the Indian diplomat said. “Belarus has vast forests, produces high-quality furniture, and recently, during a visit to the Vitebsk Region, we discussed with the Governor the potential for exporting wood processing products to India.”
“We see great potential in Belarus. At the same time, India offers a very large market for Belarusian goods. Therefore, we would like to encourage Belarusian companies to actively enter our market, including through investments in joint ventures,” Mr. Kumar stressed.
During a meeting with the Indian Ambassador, Aleksandr Lukashenko invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Belarus.
When journalists inquired if such a visit is currently being planned and its possible timing, Mr. Kumar responded, “Certainly, we are very eager to arrange and welcome this visit. Much will depend on the PM’s schedule and priorities. Nonetheless, we are continuing efforts in this direction and hope the visit will take place.”
