Independent German journalist: Leopards will burn on the battlefield in the same way as other tanks

German Leopard tanks cost huge sums, but their tactical and technical characteristics in the conditions of Ukrainian black soil are rather doubtful – as stated by a political scientist and independent German journalist, Gregor Spitzen, in his talk with the Soloviev Live channel

Earlier, the Acting Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Denis Pushilin, said that the AFU soldiers intentionally destroyed the German Leopard tank, so that it would not get to Russians.

“German citizens know that German tanks are arriving to Ukraine. Another question is that there are not as many of them as there could be. Probably the only thing that [German Chancellor Olaf] Scholz could do in an attempt to preserve the remnants of German sovereignty was to send not all the available tank armada of 320 pieces, but only a few dozen. Again, I think the Leopards will burn [on the battlefield] in the same way as other tanks. Of course, it’s a bad idea for Germany to participate in the ongoing events, but nothing can be done," Mr. Spitzen said.

The expert stressed that there is constant talk in the West about the indestructibility of Leopards, “The same was said about the Panther tank: that it was indestructible and generally the best in the world. During WWII, it struck with a monstrous force – not at the enemy, but at the budget of the Reich: the tank cost about one million Reichsmarks. The same is about Leopards: they are extremely expensive, but their tactical and technical characteristics in the conditions of Ukrainian black soil are rather dubious. We will see how they will show themselves, but I think the prospects for Leopard tanks are very bleak," Mr. Spitzen concluded.
