In the global technological stream

Belarus presented its developments at the largest smart exhibition in China

The fifth annual Smart China Expo was held in Chongqing, China (one of the largest industrial centres of the country). The Consulate General of Belarus in Chongqing, together with partner companies, organised the Belarusian pavilion at a large-scale forum of new technologies. A part of the Belarusian pavilion was dedicated to peculiarities of the country and showcased Belarusian trade, education, and tourism potential. Another part of the pavilion was dedicated on the China-Belarus Great Stone Industrial Park as the most important interstate project. The exposition also presented the results of the successful work of Belarusian-Chinese industrial enterprises. Visitors to the exhibition could not only get acquainted with the achievements of Belarus in the field of new technologies, but also, as they say, taste the country: the organisers offered the guests to taste Belarusian meat and confectionery products.

And in order to advertise them, we have to showcase them.”

Breakthrough technology

Over a short period of time Smart China Expo became China’s leading venue for presenting technological novelties of Chinese industry and foreign industry in the sphere of robot technologies, artificial intelligence, digital commerce, and IT as a whole. Its appearance in 2018 became possible upon the initiative of the State Council of China and with assistance of the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. Now the whole world is watching what is shown at the exhibition. This year, the forum brought together world-famous scientists, including 2010 Nobel Prize winner Konstantin Novoselov (his main scientific achievements relate to the field of mesoscopic physics and nanotechnology) and 2021 Turing Award winner Jack Dongarra (his innovative concepts and method led to growth of high-performance computing and have had a significant impact on many areas of computing science — from artificial intelligence to computer graphics), scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as leaders of such well-known companies as Changan Auto, Alibaba Group and Huawei.
More than 50 companies from the Fortune Global 500 and Fortune China 500 lists were among the participants. The event programme also included the global launch of some advanced technology solutions. For example, Baidu Corporation (it also owns the largest Chinese search engine) specifically timed the launch of the first fully autonomous robot taxis on the roads of China to coincide with the event.
The exhibition featured 58 new products, including an 8K high-definition decoder and an intelligent machine shop, 15 new technologies, including intelligent desert farming with socialisation elements, 24 new applications, including a big data processing platform for city management, and also 16 innovations related to microchips and IntelliSense system.

Through the cooperative efforts

Deputy Director of the Sales and Service Centre, Head of the Gomselmash in Foreign Countries Department Yuri Sivakov told SB. Belarus Segodnya that the exhibition presented the products of the joint Belarusian-Chinese enterprise Zongshen-Gomselmash, “In 2015, a Chinese corporation that manufactures motorcycles expressed a desire to create a joint venture for the assembly of agricultural machinery. Chinese partners saw a niche in their agricultural machinery market and decided to take it with us. Over the past period, we have supplied about 300 units of Belarusian-Chinese combines to the Chinese market. This is mainly forage harvesting and corn harvesting equipment.”
Sanjiang-Volat was another exhibitor is the Belarusian-Chinese enterprise. The company occupies a leading position in the metalworking industry for serial and small-scale production of parts, assemblies and units with increased requirements for accuracy and quality of products for both civil and special purposes.
Belarusian Consul General in Chongqing Dmitry Yemelyanov, “Smart China Expo has appeared quite recently if to compare with the standards of international exhibitions. But in a short time, the event has become the leading platform in China for the presentation of technological innovations in the field of robotics, artificial intelligence, big data, 5G, as well as a platform for the exchange of experience in the digital economy. It is pleasant to note that Belarus annually participates in Smart China Expo. In 2021, the event became more ambitious, as the first China-SCO Digital Economy Forum was held as part of EXPO at the suggestion of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Belarus participated as an honoured guest, and First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov spoke at the opening. This year, despite the very strict restrictions associated with China’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy for coronavirus infection, we tried to maintain a high level of representation and, together with partners, created the Belarusian pavilion. The central place on it traditionally took the most important project of bilateral technological co-operation — the Great Stone Industrial Park.”
