In need of global security dialogue

Belarus’ Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei made a statement at the general debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, calling on the great powers to start a new global dialogue on security – as reported by the Foreign Ministry’s press service

"Over the past years, Belarus has been constantly focusing the world community’s attention on the need for a new global security dialogue. The issue is not simply high on the agenda: it’s overripen! This format of communication aims to solve the key problem: to create a new effectively functioning and truly fair international order. We call on the great powers to start such a dialogue, acknowledge their responsibility for the fate of the planet and realise the civilizing mission assigned to them," Mr. Makei said, adding, “It’s also important to think about an economic aspect of the new order.”

“Sadly, economic globalisation does not meet all people’s interests and, in this regard, we see a huge potential of regional integration processes for the global economy. We call this approach ‘integration of integrations’,” the Foreign Minister stressed.

In his address, Mr. Makei also informed that, in May 2021, our country joined Barbados and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development to hold a high-level online meeting on the topic of using interregional integration in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. "Heads of the major regional economic organisations warmly supported the idea of strengthening such interregional co-operation," he said.
