In 2022, domestic tourism in Belarus grew by 12% compared to previous year

Last year, domestic tourism in Belarus grew by 12 percent compared to 2021. Thus, according to operational data, the number of tourists and sightseers sent on trips around the country through travel agencies exceeded 1.33 million people – as noted by Director of the Tourism Department at the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry Irina Voronovich.

She noted, “Domestic tourism is being actively developed and popularised in many countries, and Belarus is no exception. Statistical data show that the number of organised tourists and travellers has been growing for the third year. According to operational data, in 2022, the number of organised tourists and sightseers exceeded 1.33 million people – 12 percent more than in 2021 and 2.3 times more than in 2020. The most popular types of tourism include cultural, educational, ecological, sanatorium and health tourism, as well as agroecotourism; these areas were in demand both among our fellow countrymen and foreign guests. We expect this trend to continue. This means that our citizens should again get into the habit of planning their holidays in popular places in advance. In summer, all our recreation areas, rivers, and lakes are in the top demand for many years. Active tourism is also gaining popularity, e.g., kayaking, cycling, and recreation with tents, so we will continue to develop infrastructure for this. We’re pleased that the demand for individual travel around the country continues to grow. Obviously, Belarusians want to visit famous places and to see as many unique places as possible.”
