Hungarian PM: without negotiations, Ukraine to turn into Afghanistan for EU
The EU countries should start negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict; otherwise, Ukraine will turn into the European Union’s Afghanistan – as noted by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, TASS reports
“What we need now is diplomacy. Europeans think that not holding talks is the moral thing to do. That’s absurd! It must be done during the war! Otherwise, it will continue until complete annihilation and Ukraine will turn into the European Union’s Afghanistan,” Mr. Orban said in an interview with the Neue Zürcher Zeitung newspaper.
The head of the Hungarian government said that it was a mistake on the part of Western countries to let Kiev ‘believe that [the West] will stand by its side until victory’.
“It was clear from the start that it would be impossible for Ukraine to win, unless we launched a total war. Such an option was not considered. Today we can help Ukraine only with a ceasefire and peace,” the PM said.
Mr. Orban made arguments that the West and former US President Joe Biden failed to weaken Russia through the Ukrainian conflict and force it to abandon its goals in the special military operation zone. The Hungarian PM pointed out that the West now needs the intervention of a strong politician such as US President Donald Trump. It is he, according to Orban’s estimates, who is capable of ‘cutting the Gordian knot’ and helping to conclude a truce between Russia and Ukraine.
