Hungarian PM: EU’s policy on Ukraine conflict not in the interests of people
The European Union has found itself in a difficult situation due to the fact that its leadership pursues a policy that does not meet the interests of the majority of citizens, including with regard to the conflict in Ukraine, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban emphasised, speaking at a news conference after a meeting in Budapest with Alice Weidel, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party’s candidate for chancellor, TASS reports
“Most people in Europe want peace, while the EU wants to win a war against Russia,” the Head of the Hungarian Government said, adding that Hungary had been in favour of an exclusively negotiated settlement from the very beginning.
“The EU is in deep trouble because it governs against its own people in form and in content, if we speak using the terminology of German philosophy,” Mr. Orban emphasised.
He said that Brussels continues to ‘encourage migration’ and is destroying the foundations of public welfare through its economic actions. He said Europeans want Brussels to protect their incomes and pursue policies in favour of the middle class, ‘but they get the exact opposite – they get poorer’.
Weidel agreed with Orban’s assessment, noting in particular the unfavourable situation in the German economy. According to her, ‘German companies are leaving the country’, i.e. moving their activities to other states.
