Finnish army to attract more female volunteers

The Finnish Armed Forces are working on a set of measures that will help them attract more female volunteers to serve in the army starting from 2023, Helsingin Sanomat reports

For example, the cash allowance will increase from 0.5 to 1.5 Euros per day, and the Finnish Armed Forces believe this move will better compensate for the costs incurred by women undergoing voluntary military service.

As informed, the country plans to select volunteers from among women and call men at the same time in the autumn of 2023. In 2024, the authorities want to conduct an experiment and simultaneously conscript men and women volunteers.

The source says such measures are being taken since the male population is declining in Finland.
