‘Hot autumn’ predicted for Poland

The policy of the Polish authorities has led to a severe economic crisis, and by autumn the country may face social protests of unprecedented strength – as noted by columnist Lukasz Jastrzebski in the Mysl Polska magazine, RIA Novosti reports

He stressed that the Poles are less and less confident every day that the government is aware of how much the standard of living of the population has deteriorated. Now residents are more afraid of poverty than some kind of military conflict.

The threat of being left without energy resources and food greatly affects the mood of people.

The journalist noted that Poland has already experienced many upheavals due to the coronavirus and the Ukrainian conflict, but the coming economic collapse, which is being talked about more often, may turn out to be even worse than the Great Depression. Today, the brunt of the crisis has to be borne by those who do useful work: nurses, miners, farmers, teachers and entrepreneurs. According to Lukasz Jastrzebski, the Polish authorities will not be able, as before, to convince the population to save the country’s economy.

“It is impossible to make people believe that the ideas of freedom and Western democracy are more important than the thickness of the wallet. It will no longer be possible to convince that Putin, Orban, Lukashenko, Trump or Pope Francis are to blame. We all see people who are being fired from their jobs, and they are right next to us,” the observer noted.

The columnist believes that the authorities in Warsaw cannot offer people anything but empty slogans.
