Healthcare Ministry: Belarusian medicines sold to 30 countries
The quality of Belarusian medicines is a real brand of the country, and locally produced drugs enjoy demand in three dozen states – as noted by Deputy Healthcare Minister Aleksandr Starovoitov during a press tour dedicated to Day of Pharmaceutical and Microbiological Industry Workers
Mr. Starovoitov said, “The total volume of exports of Belarusian medicines exceeded $206m in 2024. Domestic drugs are most in demand in the countries of the former Soviet Union, and the African and far-arc markets are also actively being mastered. Over the past five years, about 400 new medicines have been produced in Belarus, and fifty more are planned for 2025.”
The Deputy Healthcare Minister also shared some long-term plans in the pharmaceutical industry, “In the next five years, equipment of our pharmaceutical enterprises will be updated, and this will cost about Br1bn.” He added that the current task of the branch is to provide high-quality and inexpensive medicines to Belarusians. Increased attention is now being paid to the development of biotechnological drugs that will help patients cope with oncological, systemic, genetic and other diseases.
“One of the examples of successful development of the biopharmaceutical industry today is the production of medicines from blood plasma. The construction of a plasma processing plant in Gantsevichi is currently being completed, and drugs that were previously imported to Belarus from other countries will be produced there,” Mr. Starovoitov added.
