Healthcare Minister on Belarusian medicine development
The next year is dedicated to improving the organisation of quality and accessible assistance for our population at all levels, from village to city – as noted by Belarus’ Healthcare Minister Aleksandr Khodzhaev
“We reformatted regulatory legal documents that had been in use for decades. We are also carrying out a planned, systematic re-equipment of our facilities. In 2024, we built and reconstructed 25 facilities, spending about Br1.2bn from the republican and local budgets. Together with high-tech equipment and its components, this amount totalled Br1.33bn last year,” he noted.
The Healthcare Minister emphasised that all these figures show a rather large surplus compared to 2023, which indicates that the healthcare system is receiving considerable attention not only in terms of material and technical support, but also in terms of human resources, “The number of doctors working in the healthcare system has increased by about 200 people compared to 2023. We are working to ensure that our service, which is actually very much in demand by the population, is always provided not only with material resources but also with human resources.”
The Healthcare Minister also added that all our breakthrough technologies are concentrated in three areas, “These are organ transplantation, oncology and cardiology. In these areas, we have reached a level that meets world standards. Our doctors are working to ensure that these world standards are implemented not only in large clinics. These standards should be available at all levels of care. We are working to ensure that they are implemented in regional centres.”
In addition, Mr. Khodzhaev noted that construction of regional hospitals is underway in the country, e.g., in Minsk, in the Vitebsk Region, in Brest. This suggests that world standards will soon be implemented at modern sites.
