“The crisis is resulted in a sharp increase in prices, and we already observe this in the markets of Europe. Moreover, not only food prices are growing: many other everyday goods are becoming more expensive – as seen in the field of industrial production as well. In general, inflation in the West has skyrocketed, and – due to this increasing inflation – problems with food are being registered,” the expert noted.

Mr. Chrkov also commented on how the food crisis will affect the Belarusian agriculture, “Escalation of the food crisis in Europe may become a point that will help – if not abolish the sanctions imposed by the West against Belarus – lift them in a certain way. The European countries’ dependence on agricultural producers from Belarus, Russia and even from Ukraine is obvious here. As a whole, this is creating a great pressure on the European market. I think this may encourage the West to lift certain restrictions.”
