Google’s Russian subsidiary to declare bankruptcy

Google's Russian subsidiary has filed for insolvency – as stated in a message posted on Russia’s official registry, Super.ru reports

CEO David Munro Sneddon has reported an intention to file for bankruptcy by submitting a notification to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities.

In December 2021, Google LLC was fined 7.22bn Russian Roubles by a Moscow court for not removing prohibited materials. After the start of a special operation in Ukraine, Google turned off its YouTube monetisation for authors from Russia, and also banned the display of advertising.

Google’s Russian branch was registered in Moscow in 2005, and it has shown revenue growth in recent years. In 2021, the company reported a record 134bn Russian Roubles, while the loss amounted to 26bn Russian Roubles.
