Good friendship between peoples of Belarus, China underpinned by solid economic foundation
Belarus and China will do everything to ensure that no storms can disrupt our unity, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko stated during his meeting with Zhang Qingwei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China

Welcoming the guest, the Belarusian leader noted, “Today is a military-themed day for me, but I’ve rescheduled all my activities for the end of the day in order to meet with our long-standing and reliable friends, especially following the successful visit of the Belarusian delegation, my visit to the People’s Republic of China and my meeting with my long-standing friend, Xi Jinping. As you know, our diplomatic and political relations, as well as the good friendship between our peoples, are underpinned by a solid economic foundation. We are implementing many projects in Belarus together with China, which are jointly financed. We are ready to further develop our co-operation in this regard.”
During Aleksandr Lukashenko’s recent visit to China, the two countries’ leaders confirmed their commitment to strengthening friendship and co-operation. The Belarusian leader noted on this occasion, “At the meeting with President Xi Jinping, we agreed that we would do everything to ensure that no storms or blizzards could disrupt our unity.
We will continue to develop and deepen our relations as we have done for the past thirty years. You should know that we are ready to support the interests of the People’s Republic of China on the territory of Belarus, which is located in the centre of Europe. We will do everything to strengthen our friendship and the friendship between the Belarusian and Chinese peoples.”In the modern world, people’s diplomacy is of great importance in interstate relations, based on co-operation between parliaments and deputies, the President underlined.
The Head of State noted that our parliamentarians are at the forefront, “They face the people’s problems directly. We are building people’s states. Therefore, it is crucial for us to know public sentiment and act in the interests of the people.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko thanked the Chinese authorities and the leadership of the National People’s Congress for the tremendous support that China provides to Belarus on the international stage. “We have always responded, and continue to respond, to your support with appropriate support on all issues relating to the People’s Republic of China within international organisations,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

Firstly, the foreign guest thanked the Belarusian leader for finding time to meet despite his busy schedule. He also conveyed the sincere greetings of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Zhang Qingwei noted that the two countries’ leaders had recently met in Beijing and reached important agreements.
“Mr. President, you are very famous in China. The Chinese people know all about you. We are sincerely proud that the Chinese have such a long-standing and close friend. Thanks to the leadership of the two heads of state, Chinese-Belarusian relations of all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership have developed at a high level in recent years. The Chinese side is ready to work with the Belarusian side to use the highest-level agreements as a guide for action.This will enhance traditional friendship, deepen mutually beneficial co-operation and encourage closer interaction in the international arena, with the aim of modernising our countries,” the Chinese guest emphasised.
Zhang Qingwei congratulated the President of Belarus and the Belarusian people on the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, “The Belarusian people have shown great heroism and patriotism. This is admirable. We also greatly value the significant contribution of the Belarusian people to the victory in the world anti-fascist war. The Chinese side is committed to ensuring world peace and is ready to work with the Belarusian side to protect the results of WWII and uphold international justice, building a community with a shared future for mankind.”

They agreed to devote the next two years to industrial co-operation. Chinese President Xi Jinping invited Aleksandr Lukashenko to attend the upcoming SCO summit and the parade to mark the victory in the world anti-fascist war — to be held in Beijing on September 3rd, 2025.Since 2020, China has been Belarus’ second-largest trading partner after Russia. Last year, trade turnover between the two countries reached almost $8.6bn, marking a 12 percent increase compared to 2023. From January to March 2025, the volume of mutual trade amounted to $2.46bn.
Over the past five years, the share of exports to China in Belarus’ total export supplies has increased by 1.6 times. Belarus is now one of the top-10 suppliers of potash fertilisers (2nd place), rapeseed oil (3rd place), poultry meat (5th place), powdered milk and whey (7th place) and beef (9th place) to China. Over the past decade, the range of products supplied to China has grown from 199 to 273.
Since 2020, gross investments from China have amounted to $853.4m. Last year, Belarus received investments totalling $217.5m from Chinese investors. A total of 27 projects — worth approximately $5.46bn — have been implemented under existing loan agreements with the Chinese government.
As part of China’s technical and economic assistance, approximately $330m has been allocated to 19 projects. The most significant of these are the construction of an international-standard swimming pool and the National Football Stadium, the development of the Great Stone Industrial Park, the construction of social housing and a student dormitory in Minsk, the construction of a therapeutic building at the Minsk Central District Hospital, and the provision of equipment for a fingerprint laboratory at the State Committee of Forensic Examinations.
