Golovchenko: Volgograd Region is important investor in Belarus’ economy

Belarus’ Prime Minister has met today with the Governor of the Volgograd Region, Andrei Bocharov, as part of a government delegation’s working visit to Russia

“Direct ties with the subjects of the Russian Federation are the basis for building an effective model of trade and economic co-operation and further strengthening the fraternal peoples of Belarus and Russia. It is for this purpose that we are in the Volgograd Region today, attaching the greatest importance to co-operation with your territory,” Mr. Golovchenko stressed.

The PM noted that the Volgograd Region’s industry and business are important investors in Belarus’ economy. “We are implementing several industrial investment projects with the participation of Volgograd organisations, and a number of others are being worked out. The twinning ties between Volgograd and Vitebsk are also bearing fruit: an extensive bilateral agenda is regularly discussed,” he said.

The Prime Minister stated that such interaction demonstrates an obvious effect: starting from 2020, there has been a steady increase in trade turnover, with Belarusian exports and imports from the Volgograd Region growing.

“Last year, the trade turnover exceeded $360m. These are good dynamics, and this trend needs to be developed and continued in the future. Actually, this is possible only through the search and implementation of new projects," Mr. Golovchenko concluded.

In addition to negotiations with Mr. Bocharov, a joint meeting of representatives of Belarusian industrial enterprises and the Governor's Council for Development of Industry, Fuel and Energy Complex has taken place.

Mr. Golovchenko’s plans also included a visit to the Volga Pipe Plant and the Volma Corporation.
