Golovchenko visited Atomflot Maritime Operations Headquarters in Murmansk

Belarus’ Prime Minister visited Atomflot Maritime Operations Headquarters as part of his three-day working trip to the Russian Federation

As informed by the press service of the Government of Belarus, the Maritime Operations Headquarters primarily focuses on icebreaking support for Arctic investment projects, icebreaking of ships in the waters of the Northern Sea Route and to freezing ports of Russia, provision of a range of services for the port fleet in the port of Sabetta, cargo transportation by the Sevmorput nuclear container ship, safe handling of nuclear materials and radioactive waste, as well as the implementation of environmental rehabilitation works in the North-West region of Russia.

Mr. Golovchenko asked how much cargo was transported in the eastern part of the route, and Leonid Irlitsa, the Acting Director General of Atomflot Federal State Unitary Enterprise, replied, “At the moment, this is 20 percent of the total cargo flow, which makes 34m tonnes. Of these, 80 percent go to the west, 20 percent – to the east. There are plans to change this trend by 2025 – sending 80 percent to the east and 20 percent to the west.”
