Golovchenko invited SCO athletes to participate in II CIS Games

Belarus’ Prime Minister announced an invitation during his speech at the 21st meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government held today via videoconferencing

Mr. Golovchenko recalled that, at a meeting in Samarkand, the presidents of Belarus and Russia spoke in favour of strengthening co-operation in the field of sports, especially against the background of unjustified, illegal and inexplicable suspension of Belarusian and Russian athletes from participating in international competitions.

“Belarus is interested in increasing the importance of the SCO region and the competitiveness of the organisation's member states on the world sports arena," the Prime Minister stressed. “Our country has the appropriate infrastructure for holding high-level sports competitions in both winter and summer sports.”

Mr. Golovchenko explained that almost all the events held in Belarus are open, and this means that all interested athletes and sports federations will have access. The Prime Minister invited sportsmen from the SCO member states to participate, and fans to attend the II CIS Games scheduled to be held in Belarus from August 3rd-15th, 2023.

“I am convinced that the international sports forum will make it possible to unite our joint efforts for development of high–performance sports, and also to form healthy lifestyle for our citizens,” Mr. Golovchenko added.
