Gigin: US losing its position as sole superpower

The Chairman of the Republican Znanie Belarusian Society, Vadim Gigin, has shared his views with Alfa Radio

“The United States is losing its main positions as a sole superpower. This process is inevitable and irreversible. China will become the number one economic power any day now. Russia has a military-industrial potential that enables it to confidently defend its and our interests in the confrontation with the United States. Latin America, Asia, Europe and some African countries do not want hegemony. They declare this openly, while confidently defending their independence and sovereignty. These are China, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela... The United States is not capable of maintaining its sole hegemony around the world," Mr. Gigin stressed.

At the same time, according to the expert, the American leadership does not want to admit this – ‘holding on to the old world but being doomed to defeat’.

“True, the US will remain a great power. It’s not a given, of course, but I hope so… Americans are really a great nation; these people have a unique character. I grew up in times of the cold war but Americans have always been treated with respect. There has never been Americanophobia, [while] there [hostility was spread] towards Russians, Belarusians and Serbs. In our history textbooks, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and John Kennedy are heroes. We knew perfectly well that the United States was our allies during WWII… With this in view, I respect this nation but it is not unique and not God’s favoured: it is one of many. The US political leadership needs to take it as it is. Ordinary Americans do not have such a problem,” Mr. Gigin added.
