Gigin: preservation of Belarus’ sovereignty, peace and stability in our land is a matter of consensus

Now is the time when Belarus can take a step towards those who made a mistake in 2020, but a balance is crucial in this issue – as noted by Vadim Gigin, the Chairman of the Board of the Republican Znanie Belarusian Society, during his talk with Alfa Radio

The political expert noted that in the current turbulent times, the Belarusian society is in great need of consolidation, “Preservation of Belarus’ sovereignty, peace and stability in our land is a matter of consensus. We see how even those who were among those lost in 2020 are beginning to understand. Maybe some of them even take the side of Aleksandr Lukashenko. To an even greater extent, disappointment sets in the ranks of the fugitives and their supporters here. Their leaders are losing popularity at a galloping rate. Not a single performance is complete without crushing, stormy criticism of them, testifying to a natural process of degeneration of their ranks. The authorities cannot ignore this. We must respond towards this because they are also our citizens though balance is important here. Under no circumstances should steps be taken that would weaken our statehood and to some extent create conditions similar to those that were in 2020. But, on the other hand, we can’t push people away either.”

The political analyst stressed that Belarus will in no case extend a hand of friendship and mutual understanding to those against whom criminal cases have been opened, who have tried and are trying to undermine our country and call for intervention. But there are people who are disappointed in their idols, and they are ready to liaise.”

“We must work on the camp of our opponents, but there should be very competent and well-considered tactics on the part of the state,” Vadim Gigin summed up.
