Gigin about the fight against the pandemic

The world is now fighting against coronavirus using the way that Belarus has chosen for itself in 2020, stated the Chairman of the Republican Znanie Belarusian Society, Vadim Gigin, in his talk with Alfa Radio while summing up the results of the outgoing year

According to the expert, in 2020, the coronavirus infection became a trigger for the growth of protest activity in Belarus.

“Now, those who came out to the protests in summer 2020 say that Aleksandr Lukashenko was right. The strategy that the President chose at that time enabled us to preserve jobs. If the country was closed, there would still be a pandemic, there would be deaths, people would get sick, but in addition to this, the economy would be destroyed. Just imagine what would happen if – against the backdrop of that economy weakened by the lockdown – there were sanctions now?” noted Mr. Gigin.

The expert believes that this way of combating coronavirus in Belarus is not luck, but the result of a well-thought-out strategy, chosen on the basis of intuition, experience and analysis of the current situation in the country and in the world. Other countries can fight COVID-19, taking into account similar practices.

“It seems to me that they are already doing it on the sly. After all, the scale of the current pandemic is no less than in 2020, and maybe even more. New strains appear. <...> Nevertheless, such strict measures are not introduced. The world is now following our path,” stated Mr. Gigin.
