Germany urges its citizens to get ready for constant rise in prices

Germans are unlikely to face a noticeable decrease in energy prices in the near future – as announced by Germany’s Economy Minister Robert Habeck, RIA Novosti reports

“We will further have to deal with higher prices. This is the bitter and harsh truth," Mr. Habeck said, adding that the government had developed various assistance programmes, but they would not be able to significantly change the situation.

“These will not be able (I cannot but tell you this sad news) to prevent an increase in prices for various groups of goods. Otherwise, we will not be able to cope this time," the politician addressed the nation.

Mr. Habeck also noted that fuel costs could fall in late 2023 but still prices would remain high.

The German Economy Minister expressed his scepticism about gas production by fracking – hydraulic fracturing. According to Mr. Habeck, the government is not ready to jeopardise the water supply for the sake of gas production in this way.
