Germany revoked orders allowing asylum seekers to enter the country

The new German government has revoked the previous cabinet’s 2015 decision to allow asylum seekers to enter the country. According to German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, they will be turned away at the borders, TASS reports.

The DPA news agency reports that the new Interior Minister also announced an increase in the number of federal police officers carrying out border controls.

As previously reported by Der Spiegel, the number of federal border police will be doubled to 12 companies. Later, mobile surveillance and monitoring units will be added. In addition, border guards will have to work in 12-hour shifts. So far, they have been working in 8-hour shifts, the magazine points out.

The number of checkpoints (currently there are about 50) may be increased proportionally. According to the edition, the strengthening of the border units will probably begin with the fact that the federal police officers already stationed at the border will not be recalled, but new personnel will be sent as additional staff. However, this will not be enough to ensure full control. There are too many border crossings on the German border, which is almost 4,000km long. But the result, according to one police officer, will certainly be noticeable.
