Gaidukevich: Belarus will never be destroyed economically

Belarus and its economy will not be destroyed even by the sanctions imposed, the Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, Oleg Gaidukevich, believes

In his talk with the STV TV channel, the Palace of Representatives deputy noted, “Economically, our country will never be destroyed; it is impossible. There is one goal [of anti-Belarusian sanctions]: to tear apart society in Belarus and Russia from within. We see the governments are reacting promptly. The agreement they reached [two days ago] is extremely important for development of the two states’ economy. This will enable us not to slow down the pace of development that we have previously outlined. We are minimising as much as possible the negative aspects that [western countries] want to bring into our economy,” Mr. Gaidukevich stressed.

Earlier it was reported that the European Union extended personal sanctions against 190 Belarusians for a year. These are mostly officials. The United States has added 24 more names to the blacklist: officials, security forces’ representatives and businessmen. In addition, the restrictions have affected the defence sector and financial institutions. Belgazprombank, Bank Dabrabyt and the Development Bank are now disconnected from the SWIFT system, and the European Union has banned transactions with the National Bank of Belarus.
