MP: Belarus is fighting for freedom, real democracy, people’s rule and true values

A Belarusian delegation headed by Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik is taking part in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 19th-24th. At the same time, according to the Foreign Ministry’s press service, it plans to focus its main efforts on the tasks of promoting a consolidating and creative agenda that emphasises the peaceful nature of Belarus’ national priorities. A deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Oleg Gaidukevich, has explained why it is important to be present at such venues.

“I have recently criticised international organisations, saying that they exist only formally. The UN cannot stop the war or influence any decisions. The right of force is in effect," the MP noted in his talk with Alfa Radio. “However, we will never refuse to work at such venues, and there are two reasons for this. Firstly, the voice of Belarus must and will sound; it is already loud, and it is heard. A huge number of countries support us. We will speak out, defend our point of view, fight for international law to really become international law again, so that we live by laws and not by ideas, so that every country in the world has the right to determine its own path, so that there are no more African colonies, so that Africa and the Middle East decide for themselves how to live and what kind of elections to hold. That's what we are fighting for. Secondly, it is very important, since the world is changing, and new alliances and blocs are emerging. Belarus plays an active role in them.”

According to Mr. Gaidukevich, the world will never be the same again, and Belarus is doing everything to ensure that the new world order is fair, “We are fighting for freedom, real democracy, people’s rule and true values shared by many people around the globe.”
