French authorities agreed with retailers to curb rise in food prices

Minister for Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty of France Bruno Le Maire noted that in the next three months, firms that specialise in the sale of food in the country will curb the rise in prices for essential food items as part of an agreement with the government, TASS reports

Bruno Le Maire stressed at a press conference that the agreement would allow for the lowest possible prices for a number of products during the quarter.

It is clarified that the list of goods covered by the three-month campaign will be determined by the stores themselves. Moreover, such price containment measures will cost large retail chains hundreds of millions of Euros.

Moreover, Bruno Le Maire announced the distribution of ‘food stamps’ for low-income families in the coming months.

It is known that in annual terms, the increase in food prices in February in France amounted to 14.5 percent. Earlier, government spokesman Olivier Véran reported that inflation in the country would accelerate to 10 percent in March.
