Forestry Ministry: in Belarus, more than 1 hectare of forest accounts per citizen
There is more than 1 hectare of forest per Belarusian in the country – as reported by Aleksandr Ovsei, from the Forestry Ministry
“The total forest area now exceeds 9.7m hectares in the republic, and this means that there is more than one hectare of forest per each Belarusian. The average forest cover of the country’s territory has reached 40.2 percent, with an average reserve of 232 cubic metres of wood per hectare. As seen from the dynamics, all these indicators continue to grow from year to year," Mr. Ovsei said.
As noted, the country has a well-established forestry management system, which includes protection and rational use of its forest resources.
“Moreover, forestry enterprises are regularly supplemented with low-grade, non-forested territories, farming where is inefficient. Under appropriate soil conditions, forest plantations are cultivated there,” the specialist added.
