Foreign Ministry comments on ban of Belarusian oil products imports to Estonia

Belarus’ Foreign Ministry sees no problem in this decision since the country reoriented its commodity flows to other logistics directions long time ago – as informed by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service

On March 1st, 2022, a decree of the Estonian government banning imports of certain Belarusian petroleum products into Estonia came into force, and the Foreign Ministry of Belarus commented, “This fact has gone unnoticed and, in practice, does not matter to the Belarusian side. Actually, Belarus reoriented its commodity flows to other logistics directions long time ago, without any problems and losses. At the same time, we are convinced that this step of the Estonian government has been felt primarily by Estonian individuals and businesses; the latter are losing tens of millions of Euros in revenue from their annual transportation of about 1.8m tonnes of cargo from our country.”

“In this situation, it is difficult to find a rational explanation for the Estonian government’s strong desire to punish its own citizens in pursuit of the opportunity to stand out among the EU countries in their unsuccessful attempts to do harm to Belarus,” the Foreign Ministry added.

Belarus’ Foreign Ministry is confident that the sides have every chance to return to constructive and mutually beneficial co-operation. This will happen ‘when they in Tallinn realise that ‘self-inflicted wounds’ are not simply painful but also absolutely meaningless’.
