Food prices reached record high in UK

In the United Kingdom, the annual growth rate of food prices reached a record high of 15.7 percent in April, Sky News reports with reference to the consumer price index of NielsenlQ analytical company

Helen Dickinson, the Director General of the British Retail Consortium (BRC), noted that food prices in the country remain high due to increasing costs throughout the supply chain. “The domino effect of increased production and packaging costs has led to higher prices for ready meals, and the cost of coffee has increased against the background of reduced supplies from its main importers and rising prices for its grains," she stressed.

As reported, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 15.7 percent in the country against the same period last year, and this is happening in times of the strongest inflation in the food segment over the past 45 years.

Perishable products have risen the most in the UK (17.8 percent), and canned food has become 12.9 percent more expensive.

"Since the peak of inflation has not yet passed and sales in many sectors continue to fall, it is quite difficult to calculate the value of consumer confidence," Mike Watkins, the Head of Retailer and Business Inside at NielsenlQ, stated.
