FM noted continued groundless criticism of Belarus by some Western countries
Some Western countries continue to criticise Belarus without grounds – as noted in the comment of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry on the joint statement by the EU and its member states dated January 27th, sb.by reports with reference to the Foreign Ministry’s press service
“We regret to note the continuation of groundless criticism of Belarus on the part of certain Western countries using clichéd labels and sanctions threats. We are forced to note that this statement deliberately distorts the facts and does not take into account the objective realities in Belarus and the world. Moreover, such rhetoric is used against the background of its own systemic problems, growing internal disunity, and the degradation of the positions of the so-called ‘collective West’ in the international arena. Such a position, as the objective experience of the last decades shows, will lead to nothing but further deterioration of relations with Belarus. In turn, their normalisation could be beneficial first of all to the initiators of the statement in order to solve common problems in the European region and the world,” the Belarusian Foreign Ministry emphasised.
The department drew attention to the obvious difference between the assessments of observers from more than 50 countries, including Western ones, who visited Belarus, and the EU stamps prepared in advance. “Actually, under the influence of some signatories, the ODIHR decided not to participate in the election observation in Belarus,” the Foreign Ministry said.
“Belarusians, having made their choice, spoke in favour of continuing the line of building a strong and prosperous state, forming their own model of modern democratic civil society that corresponds to our history, traditions and mentality. The continuation and build-up of sanctions pressure, the deadlock and counterproductive nature of which has long been beyond doubt, will not affect the course chosen by the citizens of Belarus,” the Foreign Ministry added.
