First series electric trucks to be produced in Belarus in 2023

Trucks produced by the Minsk Automobile Plant with a loading capacity of 4.4 tonnes will be produced in Belarus this year – as informed by Oleg Yelovoy, the Deputy Director General for Research and Innovation at the Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences

Academic scientists are actively involved in the work. Ten innovative vehicles are planned for production, and the number will increase if they enjoy demand.

“A prototype has already been tested and verified at our automotive testing ground, receiving a certificate of safety. A permission has been issued for it to be used on Belarus’ public roads. The vehicle unites our latest developments in the field of electric transport and production technologies,” Mr. Yelevoy said. “In general, almost all Belarusian automotive equipment – be it MAZ trucks, BELAZ dump trucks, MTZ tractors or Gomselmash harvesters – has been created with our Institute’s participation.”

Other achievements of 2022 include an experimental sample of a commercial city truck with a loading capacity of up to one tonne, a high–speed gearbox for electric passenger cars and trucks, and a technology for obtaining highly reliable coatings that increase the wear resistance of details. The Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering closely co-operates with related Russian institutions and enterprises, such as the Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engine Institute NAMI, AvtoVAZ, and others.
