Firewood prices doubled in Latvia

According to the Latvian LTV channel, firewood in Latvia has almost doubled in price compared to 2021, with halt in the supply of timber from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine being one of the reasons

The LTV channel reported that the country began to feel the important role played by raw materials from other countries.

“A year ago, two cubic metres of firewood cost 120 Euros, now their price exceeds 220 Euros,” they noted.

At the moment, it is difficult to draw a conclusion about how the price of firewood will change closer to the beginning of the heating season.

A representative of the RaWood Export enterprise, which specialises in the production of firewood, said that most of the finished products are exported. Only 5 percent of the produced firewood is sold domestically. A ban on the export of raw wood from Latvia might be one of the options for limiting the rise in firewood prices.
