After joining NATO, Finland does not plan to deploy nuclear weapons on its territory: the country has not received any relevant proposals – as stated by Finnish President Sauli Niinistö, RIA Novosti reports

The Finnish leader noted, “Although we do not put any restrictions on our NATO membership in advance, Finland has no intention of bringing nuclear weapons onto its territory and there are no signs that anyone is offering nuclear arms to the country.”

In late October, the Finnish media claimed that the bill on Finland’s accession to NATO contains almost no restrictions on the deployment of military bases or weapons of mass destruction on the territory of the country.

Earlier Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, answering a question about the likelihood of deploying nuclear weapons in the country, said that Helsinki does not set preconditions for membership in the alliance. The head of government noted that the country is waiting for the approval of its application to join the organisation from Hungary and Turkey: the last of the bloc countries that did not give consent.
