Fifteen medical universities proposed to be closed in Ukraine
The Government of Ukraine stated that medical universities are a ‘Soviet vestige’, and therefore it was proposed to disband 15 specialised higher educational establishments operating in the country, RIA Novosti reports
According to Ukraine’s Judicial and Legal Newspaper, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vinnytsky said that Kiev is considering the possibility of integrating the country’s medical universities into the classic higher educational establishments. He stressed that fifteen medical schools are operational in Ukraine a present, while there are no more than four of them in most European countries.
“In fact, specialised medical institutions of higher education are a Soviet vestige. It would be more useful for us in terms of quality to have powerful medical faculties within classical universities," Mr. Vinnytsky said.
The politician added that students of classical universities will accordingly have an increased choice of subjects, while they will be able to further ‘narrow their activities at the medical faculty’.
