Farmers took to Paris streets to protest against government’s environmental measures

A column of five hundred tractors took to the streets of Paris to protest against the ban on a number of insecticides and insufficient state support for national agricultural producers. According to the French National Federation of Farming Unions (FNSEA), about 2,000 farmers are taking part in the action, RIA Novosti reports.

Farmers are protesting in the French capital over a ban on the use of the neonicotinoid insecticide. This, in turn, jeopardises the provision of the previous crop volumes.

One of the protesters noted that only France has such restrictions. According to him, this is a punitive ecology that will eventually prevent farmers from producing mustard, sugar, wheat and other crops. He also stressed that this ban threatens France with a significant increase in food prices.

“A kilogram of sugar now costs about 1.20 Euros. Next year, it will cost from 3 to 5 Euros. The price of mustard will double in a year, because we will not be able to produce it without these insecticides. All prices will rise significantly,” the farmer stated.
