Indiscriminate unilateral sanctions have significantly affected global financial and food markets, and such restrictions will result in new humanitarian problems over time – as stated by the Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, Dai Bing, RIA Novosti reports

A UN Security Council meeting on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine took place on March 29th and, as part of it, the Chinese diplomat commented on the topic of unilateral sanctions currently being imposed, “Extensive, indiscriminate sanctions have hit energy, food, economic, trade and financial markets and will continue to damage the life of society, giving rise to new humanitarian problems.”

Mr. Bing added that developing countries are not parties to the unfolding conflict, therefore they are not obliged to be drawn into the confrontation ‘and suffer the consequences of geopolitical clashes among major powers’.

“Sanctions and economic blockades will simply worsen food shortages and price growth, while undermining food production and food supply chains. We call for increased international co-ordination to stabilise food supplies and food prices, maintain stable markets, and to refrain from unjustified export restrictions," the Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the UN stated.
