Exports of Belarusian agricultural products to Kazakhstan rising

From January-September 2021, exports of agricultural products to Kazakhstan increased by 7.1 percent – as reported by the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry’s press service following a working meeting of Belarus’ Agriculture and Food Minister, Ivan Krupko, with the Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Yerbol Karashukeyev

The sides discussed prospects of bilateral co-operation in the agro-industrial sphere and, in particular, liaisons in the field of animal husbandry, crop production, agricultural education and science. Participation in specialised fairs and a joint project envisaging production of veterinary drugs were in focus of the ministers’ attention.

As reported by the press service, trade and economic co-operation in the agro-industrial sphere between the two countries is developing dynamically. Kazakhstan is the second largest market for Belarusian agricultural and food products – behind Russia. In 2020, Belarusians exported $271.9m (a 12.6 percent rise) of agricultural and food products to Kazakhstan and, from January-September 2021, such sales amounted to $219.7m (107.1 percent against the same period last year).

Belarus traditionally sells meat and dairy products, breeding stock and sugar to Kazakhstan, while importing cotton fibre, vegetables, melons and gourds. From January-October 2021, 829 livestock heads of Belarusian breeding were shipped to Kazakhstan (a two-fold increase against the same period last year).

Belarus is interested in increasing supplies of meat products, skimmed milk and whole milk powder, butter, and other food to Kazakhstan. The country is also ready to support construction of dairy complexes in Kazakhstan – assisting in their design, stall and milking equipment, supply of breeding stock, training and professionally consulting of agricultural personnel.

Earlier, on November 3rd-5th, a Belarusian delegation led by Belarus’ First Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister, Igor Brylo, visited Kazakhstan to sign agreements on co-operation in designing of a dairy farm, supply of equipment, livestock and food.
