Expert: West conducted special operation to separate Belarus from Russia

Western countries still hope to destroy the union of Belarus and Russia, and this goal was set long before 2020 – as noted by Vadim Gigin, the Chairman of the Republican Znanie Belarusian Society, in his talk with the ONT TV channel

“A special operation was being carried out against Belarus, President Aleksandr Lukashenko personally, and the Belarusian statehood for several years until 2020. Its goal was to separate Belarus from Russia, to overthrow the Head of State and to change the constitutional order,” Mr. Gigin voiced the goals of the West in relation to Belarus, adding that they remain unchanged, “They are now being promoted in a more aggressive form, with military-political and sanctions pressure. Earlier, they took the form of the so-called ‘soft power’ and erosion of the system.”

According to the expert, some Belarusians ‘have succumbed to those promises and become the conductors of that line, going far enough – which was one of the reasons for the events of 2020’.

“However, in general, that special operation failed,” Mr. Gigin emphasised and briefly outlined the words of Western representatives on this topic, “All their conversations boiled down to only one thing: move away from Russia. This is the main goal they pursue, but they always consider it in a package: to remove Minsk from Moscow and to remove Aleksandr Lukashenko from power. I do not know who they take the Belarusian leader and our people for if they think that we will succumb to these tricks.”
