Expert said UN not fighting for peace in Ukrainian conflict

The United Nations, which was founded to promote international peace and security, is failing in its responsibilities – as stated by deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Oleg Gaidukevich during his talk with Alfa Radio

The parliamentarian wondered why the UN was inactive when the NATO military bloc destroyed Libya, when millions of Iraqis died, when Yugoslavia was bombed.

“The UN did nothing then and is doing nothing now. Unfortunately, the organisation does not fight hunger, does not fight for peace. Today, it is the UN that should demand negotiations on Ukraine, an immediate cessation [by the West] of arms supplies to Kiev. No, the employees of the organisation simply make some abstract statements, saying that they are for peace. What are you doing for this?”

Oleg Gaidukevich also stressed that Western countries and organisations should pay attention to the behaviour of Belarus on this issue and take an example from our country, “Look at Belarus, we don’t talk, we do. Everything was organised on the territory of Minsk for negotiations, and it was not our fault that they did not take place further. Moreover, the parties wanted to continue the conversation, but the Ukrainians were forbidden to do so. What other steps towards peace are we taking? We do not succumb to provocations. Drones are sent to us and border posts are stolen, but our military did not succumb to a single provocation, they do not want war – they want peace. Take our foreign policy, the statements of the President, the Foreign Ministry, senior officials – all of this is aimed at peace. They all say: let’s negotiate, let’s reduce this escalation. Here is the real work to achieve peace.”
