Expert predicted escalation of tension on Belarus’ western borders

An unfavourable situation has developed on the western borders of Belarus because of the country’s neighbours, and this concerns primarily the passage of vehicles and citizens – from both sides – across the border of Poland and the Baltic States. Political expert Piotr Petrovsky commented on the situation and its reasons.

“Firstly, we can state the loss of dominance by the collective West. Secondly, the system of international relations is undergoing complete reformatting, and rejection of the unipolar world is observed. This cannot develop painlessly. There are also disagreements and certain contradictions within the collective West – between the EU, the UK and the US. The Anglo–Saxons are ready to throw the EU into ‘the furnace’ to preserve their leadership. Many people in Paris and Berlin understand this, but cannot actually influence the situation. Explosions on the Nord Stream are a part of the trend, and the talks about the landing of the Ryanair plane – after which Belarus was simply ‘cut off’ for far-fetched reasons from air communication with European and other countries – are viewed in the same context. Further provocations by the UK and the US are possible in order to completely close the border. The facts of creation of artificial barriers, queues and difficulties at the border indicate that the escalation will continue increasing,” Mr. Petrovsky stated.
