Expert: Polish election won’t lead to major changes in Warsaw's relations with Minsk
The Polish election campaign will not result in any significant changes to Warsaw's relations with Minsk – as noted by political scientist Yuri Shevtsov in his talk with Alfa Radio
According to the expert, the election in Poland won’t result in any significant changes to the relations with Belarus, regardless of the outcome of the election campaign.
“One should not expect things to change dramatically. Warsaw has significant inertia from the direction it chose in the late 1980s and early 1990s,” the political scientist explained.
Mr. Shevtsov added that he is referring to the course of action involving both explicit and hidden subsidies from Brussels, “They don’t even consider abandoning this course of action. For this, however, the Poles are sacrificing their national sovereignty. There is dissatisfaction within Polish society because they have to pay a high price. Therefore, the internal political struggle in Poland always includes a component of defending its own interests, but not to the extent that it loses subsidies. This is a constant theme in all elections, including this one.”
